Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Mini Milers?
Mini Milers is a nonprofit kids’ running club designed to help children in kindergarten through 5th grade build strength, confidence, and a love for running while fostering a supportive community.

2. How often do practices take place?
Practices are held twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Lake Boren Park.

3. Why is it important to attend both practices each week?
Consistency is key to building confidence, endurance, and a strong sense of teamwork. Attending both practices ensures your child gets the full benefit of the program and stays on track to meet their personal goals.

4. What does a typical practice look like?
Each practice includes a warm-up, running drills, games, and a cool-down session. Coaches will also emphasize goal setting, teamwork, and confidence-building throughout the season.

5. Will there be competitions or races?
Mini Milers is focused on personal growth and goal setting rather than competition. The season will end with a Family Fun Run on May 31 to celebrate everyone’s progress!

6. What should my child wear to practice?
Children should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy running shoes. Layers are recommended for cooler days.

7. What should my child bring to practice?
Please send your child with a labeled water bottle and a positive attitude! Optional items include sunscreen or a hat for sunny days.

8. What happens if it rains?
Rain is actually great running weather! As long as it’s safe (no lightning or extreme conditions), we will run regardless of the rain. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a waterproof jacket or layers they can run in. Running in the rain can be a fun and empowering experience!

9. What safety measures are in place?
We’ll have a first aid kit on-site, and our coaches are trained to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

10. My child has a life-threatening allergy or medical condition. Can they participate?
Yes! Please include all relevant medical information on the emergency contact form during registration, and we’ll work with you to ensure your child’s needs are met.

11. Can older siblings or parents get involved?
Absolutely! If you have a child in 6th grade or older, they can volunteer to assist our coaches and serve as mentors to younger runners. We also welcome parent volunteers—reach out to learn more!

12. How can I support Mini Milers?
We’re a nonprofit, and donations are always appreciated to help cover costs and provide scholarships for families in need. Visit our donation page for more information.

13. What happens if my child misses a practice?
If your child misses a practice due to illness or another reason, we can provide a brief update on what they missed, including the activities and drills covered. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have the ability to offer makeup sessions. We encourage attendance at both practices each week to ensure your child stays on track with their goals.

14. Is this a drop-off program?
Yes! Parents are welcome to stay and watch, but this is a drop-off program if you prefer. Just make sure your child is checked in at the start of practice and picked up on time at the end.

15. Should my child eat before practice?
Yes! We recommend that kids have a light, nutritious snack about 30–60 minutes before practice, such as fruit, yogurt, or a granola bar. Avoid heavy meals right before running.

16. Will snacks or food be provided?
No, we will not be providing food or snacks. Please make sure your child eats beforehand and brings a water bottle to stay hydrated.

17. What about post-run nutrition?
After practice, it’s important for kids to refuel with a balanced snack that includes protein and carbohydrates, like a banana with peanut butter, cheese and crackers, or a smoothie.
